Since the network driver is showing up on the stack, there was a patch
that went into 2.6.24-rc1 which fixed misbehavior when it couldn't
allocate memory for a packet. The commit is
605c1e57690fddbd11347ec6788ff77c527994dd and it should drop fairly
cleanly into 2.6.23.
