I installed Accumulo 1.5.0 with Hadoop 1.2.1 and Zookeeper 3.4.5 in a similar way a couple days ago and have the same issue attempting to connect to the monitor from a remote machine while connections to it from localhost work and I found why: the monitor appears to only be binding lo as evidenced by netstat -nl:

On VM: nc -l 50095 On Client: nc <ip-address of VM> 50095 Then type "test" or something on your Client machine. The message should be sent to your VM. This will help to test the connectivity of the two machines over port 50095
