How about commons-net-1.2.1 and ant 1.6.1? I don't THINK commons-net is the problem, but you might as well check.
Well, I have the same problem with FTP get and I've done the test you suggest.
It doesn't work with commons-net-1.2.1 and ant 1.6.1 and it doesn't work with commons-net-1.2.1 as well.
It *does* work with commons-net-1.1.0 and commons-net-1.0.0.
It _seems_ to be a problem with commons-net, introduced between version 1.1.0 and version 1.2.0.
