my2c: I would be happy to see ISA-L Intel lib being picked up, no idea about the performance improvements but it would be great if a user had the choice to use it or not (so switching from the java built in codec to Intel for perf tests etc..). The only caveat for me is ensuring that the Intel ISA-L follows a reasonably good open-source license, and from https://github.com/intel/isa-l/blob/master/LICENSE I don't see many problems (Debian ships the package too https://packages.debian.org/bullseye/isal).
