First you update schema for CF, then you run nodetool upgradesstables on each node:
nodetool -h [HOST] -p [JMXPORT] upgradesstables [keyspace] [cfnames] For me sometimes it works only after node restart (upgrade leaves previous format, compressed or uncompressed).
