2.x is a significant update over 1.x and especially older setups don’t have the resources to migrate (although the API is 99% compatible, operationally, there are good number of changes that could disrupt a stable system). As such, we support both CouchDB 1.x and 2.x for critical security updates and have made new releases in both lines.
If you are starting out with CouchDB, we recommend you start with 2.x, 2.1.1 to be precise at the time of writing. Cheers Jan — > On 13.
