I'm not sure if this is what happened to you - but if you are debugging a
geode process you want to make sure you debugger is configured to only stop
the one thread you are debugging, not any of the other geode threads. For
example in intellij the default is to suspend all, but if you right click
on a breakpoint you can tell it to suspend just the one thread.

If your debugger suspends all of the threads, that can cause your member to
be kicked out of the distributed system because it's not responding to
pings. And if you only have two members, the other member may decide it's
the losing side of a network partition and kill itself. You would see
something about a network partition in your locator logs if that is what
happened.
