What you said is true in regards to going from RC to "final" but you seem to imply that you think the same happens on the front end. M4 does not just "become" RC-1. There is some development between. And if that development leads the Gradle dev team to think it is ready for RC that is there call. They know WAY better then you.

Look I am not really a fan of the release "methodology" the Gradle team have adopted but this nit-picking really bugs me.

Can I just check with you what you mean by an RC-1.  If there is a
release candidate then that means all development is complete and the RC
can become the final release simply by changing the label, unless bugs
are found that lead to an RC-2.

I would have thought given the issues with M4 scheduling an RC is a bit
premature?
