Certainly it is , and quite common especially if you have some high performance machines : they can run as mapreduce slaves and also double as mongo hosts. The problem would of course be that when running mapreduce jobs you might have very slow network bandwidth at times, and if your front end needs fast response times all the time from mongo instances you could be in trouble.
