Hi Patrick, That doesn't appear to be Karaf's standard bundle cache; it seems to be something specific to Pentaho.
I quickly reviewed the source code for the `KarafBoot` class within Pentaho's source code, and it appears Pentaho uses it to launch an embedded Karaf instance. The code references a property called `pentaho.karaf.root.transient` which, when set to `true`, seems to recreate a Karaf instance every time Pentaho starts.
