I have seen this before and have never been able to track down the cause. It seems that the curl version changes or something and it thinks that there are no matching protocols. Hasn't happened to me in a while - knock on wood.
Usually a reboot helps me locally but I recall seeing this in system tests where it was never resolved - afaik.
