[1.4] user name changes and permissions

I have modified Lenya to use my standard user system, which does use 
LDAP. We use the standard first.last for user names, and it is possible 
that this ID may change at some point. Is there any code already 
existing that I could tie into to be able to do this inside of Lenya? I 
see the user files, and I can easily edit that by hand when the rare 
change occurs. My other question is, where are permissions on individual 
pages stored?
