i know the webpage still sounds a bit scary with respect to lenya 1.4, but i would recommend against evaluating lenya 1.2 at this point. rather, you might want to try lenya 1.4. it is reasonably stable now, we are preparing a release candidate, and the many improvements regarding modularization and publication templating will make your efforts future-proof. the only drawback is that there is no tarball yet, i.e. you will have to grab an svn client (on linux, install the "subversion" package of your distro, for windows, check tortoisesvn), and follow the instructions on
http://lenya.zones.apache.org/docu/docs/1_4/installation/index.html.
(note the "zones" - this is the latest and most up-to-date documentation that is built more frequently than the normal lenya page.)
