To add further,
I accessed the Firedocs Publication on my system with the URL:
http://localhost:8080/testpro/defaultfiredocs/authoring/test.html
and it simply worked but when I accessed the same publication with the
AJP Proxing URL:
http://cms.firedocs.example.com/test.html
then it hangs at "Setting XML Editor".
I think this is because of the AJP Proxing. I am investigating the
problem further.
If someone else has encountered the same problem and knows the solution
then please suggest.

Are you aware of any sort of debugger or ide?
maybe Firebug is helpful:

and also "ngrep" to debug/monitor the http traffic
