Dear Midgardians,

The next week will be a busy one in the Midgard World.

Before Gathering

* On Monday we will release the 2nd maintenance version of Midgard
8.09 Ragnaroek LTS. This will add lots of performance and make
upgrades from Midgard 1.8 a lot easier

* On Tuesday there is a preparatory meeting for the Gathering in
Teerenpeli, starting at 4pm. Mostly for Nemein people, but others are
welcome too

* Several Gathering attendees will arrive to Helsinki on Wednesday, so
maybe there will be a dinner or something

Midgard Gathering, Nov 6th-9th 2008
Otakaari 20, Otaniemi, Espoo, Finland

* On Thursday, starting at 10am there is PHP software testing workshop
by Sebastian Bergmann, the PHPUnit developer. Be prepared for a full
day.

* The rest of the Gathering kicks off on Friday, around 10-11am. I
will give a talk about Midgard's replicated future, and Tero will hold
a workshop about D-Bus communications between Midgard-PHP and
Midgard-Python

* On Friday there is the TKY annual party that some people from
Gathering will be going to. Because of this, whole Otaniemi will be in
party mode. The sauna in Midgard Gathering venue will be hot and
fridge stocked with drinks...

* Friday, Saturday and Sunday will follow the traditional Midgard
Developer Meeting format, with small-group sessions focusing on:

  - Midgard and MidCOM tutorials
  - Future Midgard user interface and visual identity
  - Vinland feature planning
  - Midgard, Vala and embedded javascript discussion
  - MidCOM 3 hacking
  - Midgard organization and IPRs: as-is, foundation, ASF, FSFe, ...
  - Midgard and authentication: Kerberos, OAuth, Shibboleth, OpenID, XEP, ...
  - Midgard-on-desktop: Glade, D-Bus
  - Midgard-on-mobile: packaging, Jabber replication

I have written some conversation starters for the Gathering on my blog:

In addition, there are two pieces from Alexander:

Facilities

OK20 has tables, chairs, a kitchen, sauna and a very fast internet
connection. We will arrange some food and drinks into the fridge, but
in addition we can go for lunch either in the campus cafeterias or
some nearby restaurants.

Accommodation

We will be able to accommodate most people coming to the gathering
from abroad. If you need accommodation, please contact me or Emilia
and ensure bed has been arranged for you.

Getting there

Otakaari 20 is in the accommodation area of the Otaniemi campus, quite
near Dipoli. Our venue is located in the bottom floor of the building.
This is the same place as in the spring 2007 event.

Buses 102 and 103 come there conveniently from Kamppi:

There should also be parking space in the area.

In case of any further questions, don't hesitate to contact me:
[EMAIL PROTECTED], +358 40 525 1334.
If you haven't told me you're coming, please do, and similarly if you
need to cancel, please let me know.

Looking forward to seeing you all, either in Otaniemi or on #midgard!

/Bergie
