Don't forget that Neo4J can also run as an embedded graph database, where it is SUBSTANTIALLY more performant and much more flexible to utilize than via the REST API.

I'm evaluating neo4j for a new project where a graph database would be a better fit than a traditional relational db. We (our company) favor using the server over embedding. Looking at the docs, some questions arise: 1. Is the REST API the only way to use the server? 2. Is the REST API ready for production usage? 3. Is there a higher level API to access the REST server than described here: http://components.neo4j.org/neo4j-examples/snapshot/server-rest-api.html 4. Is there a "standard" style/examples to bridge the gap between database and business logic? (daos?) Thank you for your time and consideration!
