+1 for D3, but also, it doesn't *have* to generate SVG. That's the way it has been implemented thus far, but it could pretty easily be tweaked to conditionally generate VML for older IE browsers.

D3 is built by the same guys who came up with Protovis a couple of years ago. [ http://vis.stanford.edu/protovis/ ] Protovis was much more limited in terms of flexible data inputs and scalability to large data sets. The only caveat, is that D3, like Protovis, generates SVG's. This means that you may have to jump through some tricky hoops to get it to work in legacy Internet Explorer browsers. (IE9 is ok.) Here is their forced layout: http://mbostock.github.com/d3/ex/force.html Since it is hot off the presses, the D3 documentation and example sets are still evolving daily. I think it is worth watching. I've been experimenting with D3 for a few weeks now and am really liking it. > Thanks for the update. For my part, I think I'll give a try to Javascript > Infovis Toolkit (http://thejit.org).
