Mohan,
The external Maven installation is only used when you use "Run as... /
Maven xxx" launch shortcuts. Everything else is using embedded Maven
runtime and that includes the following:
* project import and updating project configuration
* Maven builder used to process resources during incremental or full build
* creating new projects with archetypes
* few places in the pom editor, e.g. to get an effective pom, get list
of resolved dependencies and dependency hierarchy
