That might have worked, but I would guess since the subdirectories were
never checked-in, they didn't have any .svn metadata for Eclipse to use.

Yeah, there may be some room for improvement here.  Then again, there may be
other use cases where the current functionality make sense.  Regardless, I
can try to re-produce on Monday (Pacific Time).

That would be a good feature, although it may make sense more as an option
rather than a default setting, depending how others use the tools.
