Hi .. I get the feeling that I am missing something obvious here. I've
had a look at the archives and there are a lot of similar problems but
this doesn't seem to quite fit any of the solutions.

On debian woody, php 4.1.2, midgard-php4-1.4.2-1

output of ./mkall

checking for ld used by GCC... /usr/bin/ld
checking if the linker (/usr/bin/ld) is GNU ld... yes
checking for /usr/bin/ld option to reload object files... -r
checking for BSD-compatible nm... /usr/bin/nm -B
checking whether ln -s works... yes
checking how to recognise dependant libraries... pass_all
checking for object suffix... o
checking for executable suffix...
configure: error: installation or configuration problem: compiler cannot create
executables

output to config.log

configure:2526: checking for object suffix
configure:2532: gcc -c -g -O2 conftest.c 1>&5
configure:2552: checking for executable suffix
configure:2562: gcc -o conftest -g -O2 conftest.c -lmidgard 1>&5
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lmidgard
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

Which is odd, because the midgard libs are definitely there.

Autoconf version 2.13 & libtool version 1.4.2a

Thanks in advance ...

Richard Merryweather
