I just installed clean setup MGD 1.5/SG (installed from the release sources) and Aegir RC2 (also stable release) and everything works without problems. Tested with IE6.0, Mozilla 1.3.1 (both Win and Linux). Also "Simple" editor works on Mozilla... You might want to try to install stable Aegir release (non-CVS) and see if it helps. Or at least try with a newer IE.
