It's pretty similar in Aegir:
Have a look at the sample site. 
In the code-init element (in Websites) of the sample-site there is a news-topic 
defined (in reference to root).
The code for displaying the news can be found in the news-element...
So as long as you have all your news-articles in 1 topic, it's no big deal switching 
to aegir....

Parameters are a little more powerful than that. You can use them to extend almost 
every object in midgard...
(imagine adding a section "my pet" to every person - you can just store that in a 
parameter...)
