Funny, I experienced the exact opposite. (needed to add the deps for alpha-2)
Do you use taglibs in your jsps? If so, check the generated code when
building from the reactor, you might be in for a surprise (especially
if it's a taglib of yours that was built in the same reactor -
MJSPC-4)
