Make sure to clear the cache and history of your browser. Firefox is especially stubborn.
Chrome, if you do fresh reload, it will usually update the favicon. But Firefox is very stubborn. You need to make sure you clear enough of Firefox' cache and history, going back far enough, before it will update the favicon and any other branding. I dont know about Safari. I dont use it.
