This is intended for pure servlet environments, e.g. with Google App Engine. If you already use the tomcat integration than you don’t need this. The difference is that adding the listener manually will not give you injection in Servlets etc. Btw wonder how your app looks like. Do you rely on any jersey specific things? If not, did you try to run TomEE already? It’s basically a Tomcat with OWB and CXF, etc pre-setup.
