I haven't actually tried it but given the current jar structure and distribution is in line with Jini 2.1 I don't think you'll have any problems. You should be able to replace the existing .jars with a River build and fire it up although with a persistent setup, depending on exactly what you're doing there could be some serialization issues (unlikely I think).
