Ben, I use also the LDAP to authenticate. But i did not copy the whole directory inside roller DB because : 1 - not every people need to be an administrator 2 - anyone who need to be an administrator can subscribe online (then it create an entry for them in the roller DB), and then, i just have to activate their account.
