One calls actions with urls ending in things like myAction.do. The ".do" tells the appllication process an action. The action then passes the request on to an appropriate response object creator, like a JSP page, usually with an ActionForward. This is contrasted with just calling the JSP page directly. Actions are called BEFORE NOT AFTER target JSPs.
