Thanks for your reply... I tried to test the solution you had
suggested, but 

${FAEditorForm.formProperty}

doesn't seem to work since it is trying to use 'formProperty' as it is
without substituting the value for it (even though I used <c:set />). It
throws an exception stating that "formProperty" cannot be found in the
form. Unless you have an EL to mention the 'formProperty' the compiler
would not substitute the value, set for it. This was my initial issue, I
had to use nested ELs but according to your statement:

"Thumb rule: EL expressions that look like this are invalid:
${...${...}...}"

looks like we cannot.

Thumb rule: EL expressions that look like this are invalid:

${...${...}...}

(unless you have appropriate escapes in place).

Replace with (JSP 2.0):

<c:set var="formProperty" value="id_${counter}" />

Then, the "id" param for your URL is here:

${FAEditorForm.formProperty}

And c:url, c:param will make it cleaner as already suggested below.
