I have never used a open source in a commercial application till now. 

If I plan to use say phpBB in a commercial application is there anything I
need to take of legally?.

A couple of years ago someone suggested PMachine, but again - it's
PHP-based.  I'm not sure why, but most (all?) of the discussion forum
packages out there seem to be in PHP.
