So I was the original instigator of WSIF (along with Sanjiva and his team in IBM Research). As far as I know there is very little activity on WSIF (maybe two patches since the last release in 2003).
IBM WebSphere integration certainly used to use WSIF inside, but I thought that was being scaled back. There are some WSIF like ideas being done in Axis2 as well (with CORBA invocation), but I'd say WSIF is pretty much dormant.
