Sorry, but there will not be any further Velocity 1.4 releases and the 1.4 branch/tag is closed. So there's no point to updating 1.4 docs about obscure bugs from six years ago. If you are still experiencing this problem in 1.6.4 or 1.7-beta1 or 2.0-SNAPSHOT, then please open a bug report in JIRA so we get it fixed.
