Are you sure that HttpClient doesn't maintains session automatically ? Try to check HttpClient docs, maybe you don't need to do anything or just set one option on client.

I'm accessing the service from an xFire wsdl generated client class but can't figure out how to retrieve the http response header to retrieve the session id for subsequent requests.
