Unfortunately, -noann doesn't affect the content of the *modelgroup.xsb files. The text of the group from the schema being compiled is unchanged. It is this text that can exceed 64KB. I verified that -noann was indeed set by setting a breakpoint in its only use, in SchemaAnnotationImpl.
