The _g name is one of the links that are added because it currently
exists in
all linux packaging (at least both rpm and deb formats). I can't say
with certainty
why linux developers link to that library with a _g, but it at least 3
major distros (Ubuntu, Fedora and Mandriva) all deliver it.
