I'm a bit confused by the versioning. The FTP site has 2.21.1 as a symlink
to 2.21.1a. Was there an original 2.21.1 that disappeared? Why the "a"?
I'm asking because it speaks to whether we should use 2.21.1.1 as the
release version, rather than 2.21.1.

I chose 2.21.1a because it was the latest version at the time. I just compared the two .bz2 file and they are identical. I'll switch the Makefile to drop the "a" suffix.

Of course, I could just ask why we don't use 2.22, which is now out, and
sidesteps the whole issue ...

2.22 came out just after we received the legal approval for 2.21.1.

Instead of applying that patch, should we build with C99?

That was my initial thought too. However, I ran into a compile time error in one of the /usr/include/sys headers.

A similar check on __SUNPRO_C was already being used in several other places in the source so I added one more.

Thanks,
George
