Wildcards and escape characters

Installed an ActiveMQ slave with the command ”activemq create brokerOne”. In
activemq.xml I noticed that the tag  “<policyEntry topic="&gt;">” got an
escaped > (greater-than sign).

Is escaped characters in wildcards supported by design? It is not mentioned
on the Wiki.
