I have used Dojo with AppFuse 2.0 and Spring MVC to render tree views. Integration was not too complicated and there is plenty of discussion on the AppFuse mail groups as to how to do it. For reporting I used JasperReports: http://jasperforge.org. Integration was straightfoward as Spring MVC has built in support. I believe Struts has similar support for JasperReports.
Difficult to comment on the upgrade path to 2.0 - I am a Maven fan, and think that in the long run it makes managing a project builds easier. Appfuse 2.0 will also force you to migrate to a newer web framework - probably Struts 2.0 in your case. That I consider definitely worthwile - development speed + satisfaction shot up in the group I work in. Plus Struts 2.0 already includes Dojo under the hood. That said you seem to be taking on a lot of new technology in your second pass - it may well be sensible to limit your exposure to new technologies and only take on that which you have to to get the new feature set working.
