Matt,

I do not have a specific need at this time to debug my JSPs.

I am just getting started with Java for Web development so am trying to work
through many prerequesite choices and tasks in terms of
platform/tool/framework choices, configuration of them, and verification of
the overall development environment setup.

When I found that my breakpoints were not being hit, I wanted to be able to
explain it (and hopefully fix it) to build my own confidence in what I had
set up as a stable development platform. Then when I saw that some JSPs had
breakpoints hit and others had not, I was further confused, and decided to
post to the group.

I may never need to debug a JSP, but I am also unsure if it is a sign of
larger problems with my setup.

You mention that you do not do much with Netbeans. Do you work much with
Eclipse? Is that a better choice for Appfuse 2.x?

I used to use IDEA and Eclipse 50% each when I was doing AppFuse 1.x
development and using Ant. Ever since I switched to Maven 2 I've used
IDEA because of it's modular project support. I've been using 98% IDEA
and 2% Eclipse since August of last year (when 2.x development
started). I still have Eclipse installed and keep it up to date (and
use it when I do training), I just rarely use it.

I suspect you're about to tell me to pony up for the IDEA license, and I
will if it is significantly better than its "free" competitors. Without a
corporate "sponsor" funding my training, I have to choose my license fees
wisely. :-)

You can get a personal license for $250.

http://www.jetbrains.com/idea/buy/index.html

I bought a license after trying IDEA for a few weeks. I have 3
licenses now: 1 for AppFuse, 1 personal and 1 I got for speaking at
Denver's JUG. If you don't want to pony up the $250 for a license,
maybe you could speak at your local JUG and get a license that way.
;-)

Matt

Thank you,
Jim
