Has anyone solved this problem? I've upgraded to latest mysql connector 5.0.8 and have the same problem described here (and on some other posts related to this issue).
The way to recreate it is to stop and restart mysqld. The first time you login, you'll see this error. It won't happen again after you refresh and/or re-login.
