artifacts/dependencies in remote repositories not found

Hello,

I added a remote repository and linked it to my "internal" managed
repository via proxy connector (with default values). But running M2 the
artifact dependencies from the remote repository are not found: they are
only searched in the local managed repository and http://repo1.maven.org,
but not in the additional remote repositories. What did I miss? I use
Archiva 1.2.
