as a workaround I tried to rename the double <server> tags in two different components to <xserver> and <yserver> respectively.
I have only one excalibur-configuration:merge="true" per component XML file in $PHENIX_HOME/conf/apps/<app>/ on the topmost config element. I removed the excalibur-configuration:key-attribute attributes.
The corresponding component that contains the <xserver> in config.xml (the base) is empty but still I get the error
"Unable to merge configuration item, multiple matches on child or base [name: xserver]"
There is only one xserver- tag in the layer per-component XML file, the base does not contain it so what could be the problem still?
