A good rule of thumb is if the project is hosted on ibiblio.org/maven, then
use that name.  For Apache projects, most of the names match their GUMP
identifiers.  The real trouble comes with other third party libraries (such
as Sun's) for which there is no standard naming scheme which I have seen.

The issue is a little larger than Merlin itself since Merlin currently uses
the same structure as the Maven repositories, so a better solution (and much
more difficult one I would add) would be to get consensus for naming in both
Merlin and Maven.
