Well then start with "Developing with Avalon" article at http://avalon.apache.org/developing/introduction.html . But let me warn that consider that articles as an overview of the framework and the technology and not the tools. It mentions Excalibur big time but Excalibur is now deprecated. People are working to update that articles but for now that's all we got.
And then if you don't have any particular reason to consider another container, the jump to Merlin without bothering too much abt other stuff. I have started to work with Merlin today. So download Merlin 3.2.5 from http://www.dpml.net/merlin/distributions/3.2.5/ and also download the examples from the same location. Unzip stuff ( look at this http://avalon.apache.org/merlin/starting/installation/3.2/binary.html ) and try to play around with the Examples. And then look at the docs at http://avalon.apache.org/merlin/starting/tutorial/index.html The zip files also have some txt files which you should look into. If you have any issues installing and building ( we use maven here, so if you don't know maven a little knowledge abt that would help you ) then I can help you with that. And what next ? I don't know, I am at the first example right now and am reading docs. If any one has any other recommended learning path, or would like to add to this then I would like to know that.
