Thanks for your help (all of you).
I started the xingu project based on ECM because that was the *only* production quality container that Avalon made available at that time. Now we are moving to Fortress because ECM is @deprecated. As you told me , I should be moving to Merlin as soon as it is stablilized. I hope that this happens soon :-)
Merlin 3.2.5 is the last formal release. There are several products that are running above the platform and several thousand users and no know issues. Development under 3.3 is mainly feature enhancement (improvements to the way configuration properties are handled, more flexibility in the bootstrapping apis, big improvements in the logging subsystems, a lot more functionality expose in the management model, and some nice features like constructor based injection).
In terms of general stability:
- from the component author point of view the component
contract is solid and you can code with confidence - behind the scenes there has been development related to
the composition system, the runtime activation platform
and kernel management (changes typically impacting
embedded applications) - the objective of the 3.3
release will be incorporate as many improvements as
possible, so in effect a 3.2 to 3.3 transition could be
viewed as disruptive if your embedding merlin, but will
be transparent for components.Cheers, Steve.
