Well, I understood this. However, I'd like to do the same with blocks. Therefore, I'd need some way to override the dependency declarations in the sub-blocks without touching their archives,
All you need to do it to make the block definition standalone. So instead of running merlin and referencing a jar file - you run merlin and reference the block xml file you want. If you want to do this programatically in an embedded context you just add a container using a url to the block you want.
