As for the spammer - who said mailing lists like these aren't fun. I can
only laugh about this guy (Well, maybe it's because I'm on a broadband
connection and dont care much about mail floods...).
Anyway, I here's the things I have to say about Beonex:
First, the splash screen should be disable-able. Not that it isn't cool, but
I just don't like splash screens. I think I'm not the only one.
Second, If I start Beonex while having some other apps open, it's launched
in the background. This is not the logical and ergonomic behaviour, and it
should be changed.
Although it's already been mentioned, I'll say it again - Beonex should
store it's size, position and state (maximized or not) on exit. It's
annoying to have to maximize every window before using it.
Some people mentioned the address should be selected with a single click. I
think this would be good too, and I'd also like to see a keyboard shortcut
to it. IE uses alt-d for this, maybe something shorter would be even better,
as this is frequently used (at least with those folks who use the keyboard
most of the time). I'm thinking of a Function key here.
The status bar shows the time needed to load the page. While this is cool, I
think it would be better if the size of the page or the transfer speed was
written there too. if a 10k and a 50k page are both loaded in 4 seconds, it
might give the impression that both servers are equally fast, when this is
surely not the truth.
It seems you have much confidence in Google's "I Feel Lucky" Button.
Changing the default behaviour for entering search strings to displaying
Google's search result page may provide the user with some less erratic
results.
I've grown ot love this feature of IE, the sortability of the Favorites
(That you can drag and drop the favorites into any order instead of having
to have them sorted by name). Any chance we'll see this in Beonex?
This is just some ideas, but maybe you can use it - You could write a guide
for webmasters how to convert their sites from the faulty state that IE let
them be to what Beonex expects (e.g. Q: What to do if the page isnt
displayed at all, but shows up in "view source"? A: You forgot a </table>
tag)
The source viewer is awful as it is right now. I'm sure you know this and
are working on something better...however I noticed something else - if you
display a page you reached via a post method, the source viewer displays the
wrong page - it displays the page you would have received if you typed in
the address of it directly, ie it drops the form data. I consider this an
upright bug.
Well, this is all I can think of right now. Other than this, I really like
it. It's not yet my primary browser, because IE is still more ergonomic, but
it may soon be, so keep up the good work!
Have a lot of fun, Benjamin Lutz
