Hi Martha,
Nice job!
Let me just address your listed questions for now:
• What types of item metadata and content can be stored in a BibDB?
Pretty much anything I suppose. I think the initial focus ought to be bibliographic entries and annotations related to them.
• What are the types of searchable sources?
I think this and the next two are for Rob and Matthew, but in general I think there are two kinds of connections:
1) those to explicit OOoBib compatible servers, where those server are the source of formatting-ready metadata
In the traditional Endnote sort of application, this is just your local bibliographic database, but because of our focus on a unified local/remote query approach, it would easily be a remote connection to a multi-user setup (say for a workgroup or department)
2) those which are more about finding and retrieving records for use in 1; accessing your library catalog for example
• What are the acceptable query parameters?
From a user experience POV, there should be a brain-dead simpl google-mode. I should have easy and instant access to my entire database, without need to switch to another screen or mode.
• How will result sets will be handled (e.g., stored as file or searched with a refined search)?
• What styles are to be implemented in OOoBib Version 1?
If we support CSL, then as many styles as people are able to write. If we can manage to integrate this stuff, which styles and how many is a trivial manner to address.
The core styles that are essential are stuff like APA, MLA, Chicago, etc.
• Which of the five types of insertions will be implemented in Version 1?
First, let me clarify something: why the distinction between "reference" and "list of references"?
From my perspective, the latter would always be automatically generated, so why would I want to insert a single reference? It seems like it would make the GUI more complicated.
Anyway, in order or priority, I'd say:
citaton and reference list text (you mean stuff like quotes here?) graphics
