Where did you get this information from? Installing self develped bundles of course is supported. In fact Talend ESB uses Karaf, CXF and Camel unchanged it just adds some esb bundles. So you should not have any issues.
The problem is just caused by the default config being a bit different in TESB. See http://liquid-reality.de/display/liquid/2011/12/22/Karaf+Tutorial+Part+4+-+CXF+Services+in+OSGi I have highlighted the differences in default http port and cxf servlet name in the article now.
