I will have to defer to others on the mailing list that are more familiar with CXFRS. I haven't worked with it, and my response was based simply on a quick read of the documentation.
If you don't need to do any binding of the data coming back from the REST service, the http4 component ( http://people.apache.org/~dkulp/camel/http4.html ) might make more sense.
